Product information "FlyHenry 2024 PPGmeter with safety start monitor system, rev counter and temperature sensor"
PPG Meter from Fly Henry - The Paramotor Instrument with a Huge Safety Advantage
New functions of the 2024 model:
- Flight time calculation depending on the fuel level (the tank level sensor and flow sensor are required for this, both of which are also available here in the shop)
- Reset all timers
- Possibility to set the initial time in the total time meter
- Possibility to lock the total time meter with a code

Many instruments can now measure RPM or display the cylinder head or exhaust gas temperature.
The PPG Meter is also supplied in the standard version with an RPM sensor and a sensor for measuring the cylinder head temperature under the spark plug (CHT). Additional sensors can optionally be connected, such as the EGT sensor for exhaust gas temperature, as well as sensors for measuring fuel flow or the fuel tank level.
But the PPG Meter from Fly Henry offers another huge advantage: the Start Monitor System.
Start Monitor System is a technology that monitors the engine RPM after starting and immediately switches the engine off if a certain RPM is exceeded.
With the PPG Meter, you can individually define both the maximum RPM and the time during which it must not be exceeded within a wide range. This allows the system to be individually adapted to each paramotor.
Engines with Flash starters, for example, can sometimes reach slightly higher RPM for a short moment during starting than systems with a conventional starter or electric start.
Here you can see in a short video how the system works.
As most of you know, I myself had an accident in April 2016 in which the propeller of my engine, which I had started on the ground, seriously injured my arm.
The cause of the unintended increase in RPM immediately after starting was a jammed Bowden cable. Of course, you can say "that won't happen to me because of xy". But there are so many reasons why an engine can unexpectedly rev up when starting, whether due to a technical defect or accidentally applying throttle, forgetting to release the locking throttle.....
Over the past few years, I have met many pilots who have had accidents like mine. Some are missing a finger, some have suffered a muscle laceration like I did back then, and one pilot had to have his arm amputated. These are not the nice topics we want to associate with our sport, and this is probably also the reason why they are so often pushed aside.
For a long time, I felt the same way. Although I had been using a PPG Meter since 2019, I had never connected it completely or activated the Start Monitor System. The tragic fatal accident of a pilot I knew affected me deeply, and I realized that I had also neglected this issue. Therefore, after returning from Italy, the first thing I did was connect the system completely (it is actually not that difficult) and test it. And sure enough, it worked perfectly. When I applied throttle after starting the engine and exceeded the set RPM, the engine immediately shut down and an error message appeared on the display. After the defined waiting time, the engine can then be started again.
Since the English operating instructions and the not entirely perfect installation instructions had been a hurdle for many pilots, I sat down and translated the operating instructions completely and documented the possible installation on the device.
This should make it possible for every pilot to install the system on their paramotor and thereby drastically reduce the risk of injuries when starting the engine.
Of course, you should never rely 100% on a system and must continue to carry out a proper pre-flight check. For me, the PPG Meter is like a reserve parachute. It also gives me no guarantee that nothing can happen to me, but it is a second chance to come out of a situation safely if I have already made mistakes.
